Maria Anna Cienfuegos -- Las Piedras, Uruguay

The old women got out of bed and turned on a light. She walked to her vanity, which had a wood-framed, bevel-edged mirror. The mirror was further framed by a collection of laminated cards of various saints and the Seven African Powers.

After emigrating from Uruguay to the United States, Ursula and Felipe Webber succeed in creating a comfortable life for themselves in upstate New York, where they operate a lucrative real estate agency and live in a quiet cul-de-sac that is perfect for raising their daughter. But an evil spirit has followed them from their childhoods and now threatens to destroy all the good things in their lives. An elderly, lively santera, Maria Anna Cienfuegos, suddenly realizes that it is her calling to save this family from certain doom.
